New partnership with BAA project under WorldFish, funded by USAID

The aquaculture and fisheries sector in Bangladesh supplements food security, helps meet nutritional demand, and improves socio-economic development. Supporting the livelihoods of 17 million people, this industry is a vital and indispensable component for the country.

Despite having huge potential, advisory & extension facilities in this market system leave much to be desired, with farmers and aquaculture private actors often on the receiving end of poor services. Farmers often depend on informal sources or retailers for advisory service which leads to improper pond management and suboptimal harvest. Private companies are overly dependent on market actors for the promotion of their products. Due to the prevalence of such an informal system, both farmers as well as companies are not are not able to capitalize on their full potential.

The Right Kind is partnering with the Bangladesh Aquaculture Activity (BAA) project to ensure at least 100,000 farmers receive advisory and market linkage support. The Right Kind plans to utilize a wide range of information services to deliver region-specific information to fish farmers, feed dealers, traders, and other market actors. In the establishment of this digital platform lies an information hub to be frequented by farmers for advice, promotional offers, and other support. Subsequently, it becomes a marketspace for aquaculture retailers and suppliers (regardless of region, size or fame) to promote and sell their products to a legitimate and targeted market segment.

  • Developing a dedicated website as well as using different social media platforms including YouTube and Facebook to encourage regular engagement and presentation of best practices

  • Promoting their value proposition to enterprising aquaculture market actors to join The Right Kind in reaching farmers in all regions with their products and services
